Why is it important that the community make input into this strategy?

Community input will help the Council determine local needs overall and for different communities.

Your comments will help Council with future decision making and prioritise actions.

  • Why is Council doing this strategy?

    • Council has very limited funds for the development of its recreation facilities and open space so it is important that clear priorities are established to guide planning decisions, capital works and grant applications.

Council has determined that it needs to:

    • Document a cohesive and overarching approach to the development, maintenance, and acquisition of open space areas
    • Identify gaps and upgrade opportunities where open space is deemed ‘not fit for purpose'
    • Identify upgrades and developments to recreation, play and open spaces that consider quality, creative, nature-based play elements and access for all abilities
    • Ensure council caters for all age groups, resulting in a well-designed, well-maintained open space network that allows all the community to socialize and build supportive networks.?
    • Prepare strategiprinciples anobjectives to maximisthvaluorecreation assets.?
    • Develofair and equitable fees and charges system for clubs anusegroupoCouncifacilities
    • Identify opportunities to improve the integration of public open space and development assessment, including a review of Council’s Contributions Policy.
