Petria Thomas Memorial Swimming Pool (Mullumbimby) Feasibility

Mullumbimby
  • The Project

@leisure Planners has been engaged by Byron Shire to conduct a feasibility study into the upgrade of Petria Thomas Swimming Pool in Mullumbimby.
The investigation will include the feasibility of:

    • Adding a splash park, a warm water pool for programs and therapy, and heating the outdoor pool to create a year-round facility
    • Making all pools and the facility generally accessible to people of all ages and abilities
    • Various water treatment options
The project will include the preparation of a business case, capital and recurrent cost projections, the assessment of public health, economic and social benefits and relevant benchmarks of similar facilities.

    Stakeholder Engagement

The project has a very short time; to provide a preliminary report to Council by the end of the month. We are focusing on working with the Mullumbimby Rate Payers Association and people directly associated with the pool. Therefore we will be conducting principaly telephone interviews and a short survey to the Mullumbimby Rate Payers Association members.

  • What we’d like to know

    • Would you use the Mullumbimby pool if it was year-round, had a heated 50m pool, splash park and warm water program and therapy pool?
    • How often would you use the pool?
    • What do you think about the warm water pool being covered but not totally indoors facilities?
    • How feasible is the development of the existing pool?
    • What are the benefits of upgrading the pool?
